Online MSN program ranks number 49 nationally, 34 among public universities, and 18 for veterans

The College of Public Health is pleased to announce its online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program is ranked within the top 50 programs, as recognized in the most recent U.S. News & World Report ranking of online programs. The online MSN ranks no. 49 nationally, no. 39 among public universities, which is up 15 and 12 spots, respectively from last year. Mason’s online MSN has the highest rating of programs in the DC-area.

“Nurses are in demand across the country and our online Master of Nursing program is providing nurses with the skills to innovate public and population health,” said Acting Director of the School of Nursing Margaret Rodan. “Our graduates are a testament to the interprofessional education, research, and practice of our program, and they are eager to improve the health and well-being of all.”

Additionally, the program was ranked no. 18 for veterans nationally and no. 11 for veterans. among public universities.

Based on the 2024 rankings of on-campus graduate programs, Mason’s DNP rose 13 spots to #39 and the MHA rose one spot to #32. Mason’s MSN ranked at #38 and the MPH ranked at #76. Based on the most recent U.S. News rankings data available, the Master of Social Work maintains its ranking at #79.

The College of Health and Human Services is pleased to announce that two School of Nursing graduate programs are ranked within the top 60 of their discipline, as recognized in the most recent U.S. News & World Report rankings of graduate programs.

At #37, Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) continues to rank within the top 50 and the Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) program ranks just outside the top 50 in its field at #52.

“Nurses play an increasingly important role in public and population health and the success of our nursing programs is a testament to the interdisciplinary nature of the experience we provide all our students – from virtual and augmented reality to working directly with underrepresented populations. Our communities need strong nurse leaders now more than ever,” said Cheryl Oetjen, interim Director of the School of Nursing.

Five College of Health and Human Services Graduate Programs Rank in the Top 100 According to US News & World Report

The College of Health and Human Services is pleased to announce that five of the College’s graduate programs are ranked within the top 100 of their discipline, as recognized in the most recent U.S. News & World Report rankings of graduate programs. Two programs, the Master of Health Administration (MHA) and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), rank within the top 50 in their respective discipline and two programs – the Master of Public Health (MPH) and the MSN rose in their respective rankings by more than 20 percent.

“Providing students with access to transdisciplinary masters and doctoral programs remains core to the College’s mission of making health visible,” says Germaine M. Louis, PhD, MS and dean of the College of Health and Human Services. “We are proud to offer innovative programs that meet the needs of students, employers, and their communities we serve.”

Based on 2022 rankings, the MSN, DNP, and MPH programs are in the top 60 of their discipline, ranking #37, #51, and #60 respectively.

Based on the most recent U.S. News rankings data available: the MHA maintains its ranking at #33 and the Master of Social Work remains in the top 100 programs, tied with 24 other schools at #96.

CHHS offers thirteen graduate degrees, including a newly accredited PhD in Public Health, and six certificate programs. The College is transitioning to become a global college of public health in the near future.

Five CHHS Master’s programs are ranked within the top 100 of their discipline, as recognized by US News & World Report 2020 rankings of graduate programs. Three CHHS programs ranked within the top 50 in their respective discipline.

“Rankings are just one of the many ways to measure the success of our College. Our faculty students, alumni, staff, and community partners remain proud that CHHS is committed to the mission of improving the health of all populations in a rapidly changing world,” says Dean of CHHS, Dr. Germaine M. Louis.

The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs continue to rise in the ranks, reaching #49 and #37 respectively. The Master of Health Administration (MHA) maintains its spot at #33, and the Master of Public Health (MPH) makes a welcome debut at #78. The Master of Social Work (MSW) remained in the top 100 programs, tied with 24 other schools at #96.

CHHS offers five undergraduate degrees, twelve graduate degrees, and eleven certificate programs. CHHS is moving toward the goal of becoming a global college of public health in the near future.
